Live work
Ian has worked as Musical Director and pianist for many international
artists over the last few years. He is in an ideal position
with his many years of mixing experience as he can mix the artists'
live sound as well as direct the musicians on stage. This gives
the artist the confidence to know that their live sound will
reflect the sound they achieved on the record. This was true
for UK artist Aled Jones.
Ian was contracted to direct Aled Jones' first UK tour after
co-producing his 'comeback' album. Following this hugely successful
tour,
Ian toured the UK with Aled and subsequently put together his
first tour of Australia. Ian created multi-track backings interspersed
with a string quartet, piano and harp and mixed the live sound.
Following this Ian started working with New Zealand soprano Hayley
Westenra and has gone on to direct her world tours and now accompanies
her on piano for most of her shows. He worked as Musical Director
for her first world tour, which played to full houses in New
Zealand, Australia, Japan and the UK. Ian again created multi-track
hard disk effects which subtly complemented the ten piece
band and mixed the live sound.
Ian has also produced the live sound for UK vocal group Libera
on their international tours, which involves manipulating many
channels of radio mics and in-ear monitoring alongside complicated
keyboard setups.
The last two years has seen Ian team up with Singer/Songwriter
Heather Nova. He plays piano on her more intimate shows and has
toured
the
UK,
Europe
and Bermuda with her. |

Ian's
most recent live work has been accompanying and organising
tours for the gifted violinist and composer Fiona Pears from
New Zealand. This has seen Ian enter the world of tour managing
for the first time which has involved liaising with the media,
venues and advertising agencies. Ian plays piano with Fiona
and her fantastic NZ band.
Ian covers every element of the live show from producing
parts and charts in the notation software Sibelius to
rehearsing bands and ensembles. Ian also deals with production
companies direct, providing them with technical
riders, stage plans and all associated documentation.
